5 Favourites - Front Door Colours

Like a good lipstick, your front door colour can freshen up and lift the whole facade of your home, setting a streetscape scene that will leave a lasting impression. Here’s our front door favourite five.

Dusky Blue

With its grey undertones, a dusky blue works equally well against timber and red brick as it does on a beige background. It’s synonymous with coastal styling and oozes sophistication while popping some colour kudos into the equation. Accessorize with bronze door hardware for optimal results.

TRY: Porters Explorer Blue for its tried and true tonal magnificence (we’ve used this on a whole house exterior, a kitchen island and of course a front door!), or go a bit dreamier with the soothing softness of Taubmans Windy Waters.

Terracotta

Immensely popular in both fashion and interiors, the moment Terracotta has been having shows no sign of abating just yet. A little richer than a pastel-y blush, a terracotta door looks incredible against a grey façade, injecting warmth and vibrance.

TRY: Dulux Terracotta for a warming softness or go all in for the rich rusty tones of Resene Santa Fe.

Sage

We are loving injecting some green goodness into some of our projects, particularly some of the beautiful Federation era homes we’ve been working on. With a crisp white trim a sagey hue works beautifully on every exterior from black to white and timber.

TRY: Opt for colours that reflect our native bushland like the eucalypt tones of Dulux Misty Moore, or brighten it up a bit with Porters Agave.

Black

Using contrast to pack a punch while keeping the palette in neutral territory, black is a safe but sophisticated option for your home’s entrance. Working with just about any exterior wall colour it’s at its most dramatic juxtaposed against paler hues and whites.

TRY: Dulux Domino - it throws a subtle hint of blue in certain lights giving a lovely depth, perfect for a coastal application with a Hamptons-inspired subplot. Or Resene Double Cod Grey for pure midnight drama - a hit against timber detailing.

Indigo Blue

The epitome of classic style, always, is indigo. Stunning in a coastal context but equally at home in an urban setting, nothing beats this inky hue against a simple white wall. At our Hunter Street Project, the blue works beautifully with a potted plant and front garden greenery and complements the Dulux Weathershield Lyttelton Half shade of white and Spotted Gum timber decking.

TRY: Dulux Poor Knights – Super high gloss enamel, as used at the Hunter Street Project above, or Porters Paints Pirate Sky to bring more royal brightness to the blue.
